The Middle Way Meditation Retreat would like to welcome you to join our seven-day meditation program near the Obluang National Park in the northern province of Chiang Mai.


At “Suan Petch Kaew” Retreat Center, you will find a near-forest environment, a sanctuary for meditators surrounded by picturesque hills and mountainous scenery at 1,120 meters above the sea level. The center offers simple, clean and comfortable accommodation, enabling you to live in close contact with nature.


The serenity and natural beauty of the surroundings make the village an ideal place for meditation and conducive for listening to your inner voice that might have been silenced by hectic lifestyles, busy schedules and multiple responsibilities. Accommodation

We select tents that are designed with proper ventilation in mind to make sure that our participants have a good night sleep and feel comfortable meditating in the privacy of their tents. When the body is rested, it is easy for the mind to rest and restore its energy through mediation!

Men and women have separate quarters. There will be bedding and linens provided. Toilets and hot shower facilities are also provided in a separate area. However, for your comfort, you may wish to bring your own sleeping bag, sheet, towel, and pillow.

Food and Facilities

The Middle Way Meditation Retreat serves traditional Thai food and fruits for buffet breakfast and lunch. In the evening, we provide refreshment to help your stomach light which will help boosting your progress in meditation. Food is non-vegetarian. Meals are prepared in a balanced fashion and suitable for meditation. If you have a dietary requirement related to certain illnesses, please inform us in advance (at least 10 days before the first day of the retreat) in the application form which is available on this website in “Online Registration & Payment” section or at our office in downtown Chiang Mai.

Preparing for the Retreat

After reading the guideline for joining the retreat and filling in the application form, here you are ready to go. Below are recommendations for packing up:
What To Bring
A flashlight with batteries
Personal items and towels
Personal medication
Warm clothing and footwear for cold weather
(average temperature is 15-20 °C)
Loose, polite, comfortable clothing (preferably in white)

To make sure that your valuable time at the meditation center will not be interrupted, we would like to advise that you bring necessary personal items for your individual use. Trips to the downtown area are not encouraged. It is also advisable to bring enough clothing as there are no washing machine and dryer—although you can hand-wash your clothes.

Registration Fees

The Middle Way Meditation Retreat is run by the International Meditation Society that promotes world peace through inner peace. Fees are kept at the minimum, and all the proceeds received will be used to maintain the facilities at the meditation center and to keep the courses running so that more people will benefit from the Dhammakaya meditation and help spread more peace to their respective families, societies and the world.
Registration fee is 4,500 Thai baht which covers meals, accommodation, and transportation from and to the city center. You can apply on-line through this website. Participants must pay to confirm your attendance 7 calendar days before the first day of the program. For any cancellation, we do not refund the registration fee.

How to Get There

You can apply for our meditation course at our city office, located on the 1st floor of Nakornping Condominium. We have a bus to pick you up from the parking lot of Lotus Pang Suan Kaew Hotel. The bus will leave for the center at 8.00 a.m.

Traveling from Bangkok

By plane: You can take a Monday morning flight from Bangkok to
Chiang Mai.

Our staff will be waiting at the Chiang Mai Airport to pick you up at 08.30 a.m.
By coach: You can take a first-class, air-conditioned coach (ปอ. 1 in Thai) of Sombat Tour company. The coach leaves Platform 101 of the Morchit Bus Terminal in Bangkok at 06.00 p.m. It is advisable to buy a ticket in advance or arrive two hours ahead of the departure time. On its way to Mae Hong Sorn province, the coach will pass the Middle Way Meditation Center in Hod District, Chiang Mai at around 05.00 a.m. Our staff will be receiving and assisting you at the gate.
The center is near the Obluang National Park, the Thepphanom Hot Spring, a tribal center, the Mae Klang Waterfall, and the Mae Jam River. With cemented roads, traveling around is convenient.
